When we realize the final truth of human life and the universe as one,

then civilization will reach perfection – and not before that.

M.M. Nakazono, Inochi – The Book of Life (1984)

Kototama Books preserves and publishes the writings and media archives of O Sensei M.M. Nakazono (1918-1994) for the purpose of distributing his teaching and continiuing to make it available around the world for current and future generations. In these timeless books, O Sensei explains the importance and meaning of the Kototama Principle for our individual lives and collective human civilization. By sharing clarity and deep wisdom gained from his life long study and practice of this ancient principle, O Sensei offers insightful guidance for both current and future generations to awaken the highest level of human capacity.

Currently, the publishes works include 5 titles,  spanning O Sensei’s essays and teachings from his lifetime practice and mastery of Aikido and Natural Medicine, to his inspired viewpoint on human civilization. Scholars & students may contact us for additional resources.

Using the polished lens of the Kototama Principle, O Sensei keenly interprets the hidden meanings of symbolic language left by the writers of the biblical testaments that underlie western civilization and the current state of world affairs. His keen perspective, based on a lifetime of study and his apt interpretation of ancient, scriptural texts will aid even the most advanced scholars, leaders, and spiritual teachers.

Finally, using the framework of the Kototama Principle, he explains how we can each look deeply inside, toward our own innermost substance, and with continued practice,  develop our own highest viewpoint, awakening our greatest capacity as human beings. In this way, human civilization will reach a new age that will include cooperation, respect, and love.

If we could understand I AM, what it is to be a human being, the manifestation itself of the total universe, it would really be the greatest enlightenment.

Nothing can be bigger than the totality; no more magnificent or beautiful.

M.M. Nakazono, My Past Way of Budo (1978)

Kototama Books began under the care of Brian and Seie Brigham, who were the owners of Piñon Fast Print in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As senior students and lifelong, dedicated supporters of O Sensei’s work, the Brighams, along with contributions from several of O Sensei’s senior students, began publishing O Sensei’s works under his direct supervision and guidance until his death in 1994.

For over 25 years they offered their labor of love to continue making O Sensei’s teaching available worldwide. With the Brigham’s retirement in the summer of 2020, and the permission of the Nakazono family, Kototama Books is now in the care of another student of O Sensei’s, and is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Kototama Books are offered worldwide. Translations of various titles include English, French, Spanish, and German, with translation currently underway in Hungarian.

Beautifully designed Sound Practice Cards include hand-scripted Kanji text penned by O Sensei himself, and he has requested that each person who purchases his books receive one as a complimentary gift to support their practice.

Please inquire for a copy of a student practice audio to assist with sound practice.
